Our last week of summer camp 2011 was a blast!  While campers and staff were sad that camp was coming to an end, everyone enjoyed a fun-filled week of Ocean Commotion!

Activities included:
-Creating and eating kid octopops (frozen juice with gummy worms sticking out)
-Watermelon relay races
-A silver and gold treasure hunt
-Pirating adventures
-Crafting jelly fish
-Decorating beach sugar cookies
Minute to win it challenges
-High seas jump rope
-Hog wild (a watermelon eating  adventure!)

On Wednesday, campers were visited by our special guest dancers, Megan and Amanda.  Dancers performed and then taught our campers dance moves to ‘Blame it on the Boogie’ by Michael Jackson.

Water day Thursday was filled with the craziest of stunts down the water slide, watermeloncleverly crafted by our facilitators.  Watermelon relay races took place and after the last person on each team finished, the watermelon was thrown up in the air.  After crashing to the ground, campers dove in to devour the delicious watermelon.

There were many highlights this week, and the luau on Friday was no exception.  The campers loved having a private pool all to themselves and we thank Ms. Annette for allowing us to take over her backyard!  One of the most exciting moments was at the end of the luau when just about every fully-clothed staff member was thrown or pushed  in the pool by plotting staff and campers!

A letter from the Executive Director, Stephanie Schiff Dear Connect Us Families,

It’s hard to believe our third summer camp is already over!  Our growth has been phenomenal with 58 brand new campers this summer-all through word of mouth! As both the ED and the parent of two campers, I am amazed by the the quality and creativity of our devoted staff, and with the wonderful mix of children who graced us with their presence over the past 8 weeks.  Your kindness and generosity has been overwhelming, as well.  We can’t thank you enough for supporting Connect Us through your generous donations, by telling other families about us and for continuing to enroll your  children in our camp and year-round programs.

We also appreciate the feedback you’ve given us this summer.  Hearing the touching stories of your child’s social successes, attitude improvements, and about them being kinder and more cooperative with friends and family is what fuels us.  We appreciate the faith you had in us to set the social bar high for your children. We know many of them will begin the new school year with increased confidence, resiliency, and tolerance,  resulting in the development and enjoyment of positive peer relationships.

On behalf of the entire Connect Us staff and volunteers, thank you again for being a part of our family!   We wish you and your children smooth transitions into school and look forward to connecting with you soon.
